Frequently Asked Questions

Will you be able to help me with my problem?

We may be able to help you to improve your lifestyle if you have a neurological condition. Your brain is as individual as you are and it will not respond exactly like someone else’s. However, if you give the program a try for 6 weeks we will be able to compare your initial scan with your second scan.  Based on these results one of our clinicians will then be able to tell you with greater certainty whether the approach taken by the Institute may be of benefit to you.

Does the qEEG hurt?

The qEEG is painless and non-invasive. You put on an elastic cap which has electrodes attached to it.  Another electrode is attached gently to your ear.  The qEEG is measured while you sit still with your eyes shut for a few minutes and again for another few minutes with your eyes open.  The machine measures your brainwaves through the electrodes and creates a report about your brain function.

Can the qEEG be done on children?

Yes. The qEEG has been used with babies as young as 3 months old. If your child is young, he can have the 10 minutes of qEEG done whilst he is watching a favourite DVD or iPad. He will not be required to have the qEEG done with eyes closed.  Including set-up time, the whole procedure can be completed in approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

Does Dr RW Beck look at my scan?

Yes, Dr RW Beck (Chiropractor/Ph.D) looks at and interprets all scans and oversees the development of treatment plans in consultation with our team of clinicians. Treatment plans are developed individually for each patient based on the results of the exam and qEEG.

How long do the sessions take?

The initial assessment session takes approximately 2-3 hours. The weekly treatment sessions take about 20 minutes.  Sessions are not priced on time taken.  Even if sessions take longer, sessions remain the same price.

How long will the treatment take to complete?

The length of the treatment varies from individual to individual. It depends on factors such as the type of problem that you are presenting with and how quickly your brain responds. After your initial 6 week course of treatment, you will have another qEEG to see how you have responded to the treatment. An appointment will be made to discuss your results with you. Based on the results we may be able to advise you more clearly about time-frames.

Will the effects last?

Once the changes have become consolidated, they usually hold over time. However, growth spurts, with the corresponding surge of hormones or accidental blows to the head may cause a relapse which can be ameliorated with extra sessions for a period of time. Some patients may experience increases or decreases in energy after therapy.

Can I continue with other therapies while I am participating in the program?

Most therapies can continue concurrently, as long as they involve both sides of the body.

Are there rebates available to help with the cost of treatment?

If you have a chronic condition or have complex care need, you may be eligible to claim for Allied Health Services under Medicare.  Discuss your eligibility with your GP. If eligible, your GP can refer you for services under the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) (previously called the Enhanced Primary Care Plan). You will be able to claim five services in a calendar year.  You may also claim the weekly chiropractic sessions through private health cover if you are covered for chiropractic.  The rebatable amount varies depending on your insurer and level of cover.

Where are the IFN clinics located?

IFN has clinics in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne. The Perth clinic (head office) is located in Canning Vale.  The Sydney clinic's are based in Bella Vista (near Castle Hill) and in Bondi Junction. Please check the IFN website for addresses and future locations. Please see our contact information for more information.

How often do I need to go to the clinic for sessions?

Dr RW Beck (Chiropractor/Ph.D) will advise you on the frequency of sessions. Most often, 3 times a week is recommended initially.  This can decrease over time.

I live too far away from the clinic to attend 3 times a week.

If you live in the same state, you may choose to attend the clinic two days a week. But on one of those days, book two appointments 2 hours apart.

If you live in a different state, you may choose to go to the Sydney or Perth clinics for a concentrated block of therapy. For example, some patients who live overseas or interstate have elected to travel to Perth for a few weeks. Whilst in Perth, they attend the clinic for appointments twice a day. Appointments should be two or more hours apart. For other variants in therapy, please discuss with our Patient Services Co-ordinator who will liaise with Dr RW Beck (Chiropractor/Ph.D) to find a solution that works best for you.

What qualifications do your practitioners have?

Dr RW Beck (Chiropractor/Ph.D) has a PhD in Psychoneuroimmunology. We also have a range of clinicians in the clinic, including registered Chiropractors, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Psychologist and Medical Doctor on staff.
